So – I have been a member of Bring the Fresh for a few months now and I have been busy putting all of the information they offer to work.  And, I have to say that I am starting to see results – slowly and steadily a couple of sites that I have put together with their strategies are moving up and hopefully soon, the income will increase.

I have to admit, there are some strategies that I wasn’t able to do to the extent that I would have liked.  Some of the things would have required a bit more money than I have available right now to automate – and the truth is, even though I have tried to the best of my ability to do everything I could on my own, there are just not enough hours in the day sometimes to do it all.

My overall impression of Bring the Fresh has been completely positive.  Kelly and Mike go above and beyond to help everyone – and the community that is inside the membership area is incredible.  I didn’t think it was possible to learn anything “truly” new in IM after being around for so long.  So often when you buy something it is rehashed material put into new words.

But BTF isn’t like that.  There is some stuff that really is common sense – but they put everything together in a format that shows you how and why you need to do some of these things.  You can’t just build a website and then hope people will find it – then move onto a new one.  And sadly, that is too often what people are doing.

We are taught to find that perfect niche.  Look for the one that has hungry buyers, with tons of searches in Google every day.  Build a site, throw up some affiliate links and you will be rich in a week.

Well – it doesn’t really work like that, and if that is what you are being taught, then you need to stop.

Finding the niche and building the perfect site will mean nothing if you aren’t getting traffic to your site – and that is where BTF focuses.

I have nothing but good things to say about Bring the Fresh – so if getting traffic is something you are struggling with, then by all means – give these guys a chance to show you what you need to do.  It is refreshing to actually log in to your Awstats and see visitors coming to your site!!

Today’s post shows you a quick little method that you can use to either make a little extra Christmas spending money, or else really get your feet wet with making a bit of money online. Now, I haven’t done this myself because the truth is, I just have WAY too much else on my plate right now – but for those of you just getting started online, this is a very good way to give you some cash to start making a bit of headway.

OK – for those who have already picked up the “Make Money with Fiverr” guide, you will likely be better acquainted with some of these things. (If you haven’t picked it up yet, you can get it here…..) You don’t need to have read the guide however – but it will give you some extra tips to get more work.

For those who don’t know what Fiverr is, it is a marketplace where people can go to have jobs done for just $5. And, there is everything you could imagine that people are offering to do for $5! There are writers who are just getting started who are building clientale by offering articles, there are graphic designers who make very good money because a lot of people use Fiverr for website graphics – and there are even people willing to do some strange things like draw your logo on themselves for a day.

Now – you are probably wondering how you could possibly make any money with Fiverr if you are only making $5 a gig. Well, my advice is not to underestimate these small little jobs!

Some graphic work is very simple, and there are people who can whip out 5-10 graphic jobs in an hour! If someone wants a simple ebook cover, or maybe website buttons that look snazzy – sometimes they would rather just pay the $5 to have it done rather than trying to do it themselves or hire someone who charges an arm and a leg.

While I will admit that writing a 500 word article for just $5 isn’t really that appealing, it can be a good way to build up regular clients who would be willing to pay a bit more. And it can be good to get some testimonials about your work on a website when you go out looking for higher paying jobs.

But – today I want to show you something I have found that can let you do some quick little graphic jobs even if you have no photoshop or graphic creation experience!

For just $10, you can pick up a very good little ecover creator. Once you get it, you upload it onto your website and do all your work from there. (It is very simple to do). And this software is super easy to use.

After you have played around with it for awhile – get your gig posted on Fiverr to create ebook covers, DVD case covers and CD covers. You could make some very good money doing this – because I know I have used Fiverr for these tasks and I know of many other marketers who have done the same.

Get out there and find the jobs people are posting for ecovers, and you can start throwing them out pretty quickly. You might not make enough to quit your job or retire early, but this is a seriously easy way to make a bit of spending money. And, if you have read the guide, you know the potential that is there to make even more than that.

OK – so I have been diligently going through all of the material in the Bring the Fresh Full Disclosure area, and I have to tell you, I haven’t even got to the half way mark! Here is what I am finding so far:

There is ALOT of information in there. But – if I am going to be completely honest in my review, I have to admit that videos are not my favorite teaching method. I know that there are alot of people out there who believe that video adds value and they would rather watch a video than read about it.

These videos are great – don’t get me wrong. And they need videos for the method that they have chosen to teach. Everything is over the shoulder watching them do exactly step by step what they do every day. Which is great – but I also like to have a Cliff’s notes version to print off and use. After watching a few videos, it is easy for me to forget points that were taught in one of the earlier videos, or want to go back and clarify something, but I can’t remember which video it was in.

And – there are ALOT of videos (I think I have mentioned that, haven’t I?;-) It might take me another couple of months to see everything. But, to be fair, I have been trying to build a few sites along with the videos so that is taking time too. I wanted to try working along with it because it would take awhile to get through everything and I figured it would be a good idea to start getting some sites up and ranked.

Anyway – as for the content, it is incredible. It really is. What is incredible I think is that there really isn’t anything earth shattering – alot of what they are teaching is stuff I had heard about, but the way they do it just makes so much more sense. I am afraid I am just as guilty as everyone else who has been online for any length of time who keeps thinking that magic bullet is out there.

Bring the Fresh pretty much takes you by the hand and shows you the work you need to do. It isn’t hard, and it isn’t rocket science (as they keep pointing out…), it just takes some basic SEO concepts and a bit of work.

And, they do show little tricks and strategies to help – things that I am kind of wondering if maybe some of the other “guru’s” neglect mentioning because of fear that once people learn about them, they won’t need to buy any more of their “learn how you can make money overnight” products.

I am very happy with my membership so far – I am learning how to get back to the basics and put in the effort for good SEO. I have learned that many of the sites I have put up in the past just didn’t have the right search volume, or the proper SEO – which is why they never seemed to be getting where they needed to be. So now I am focusing on the methods they are teaching and I am already seeing results.

The other day I mentioned a course I have been going through which focuses on writing for magazines.  Well, I have officially finished the course this week, and would like to give you a bit of a review.  There have been a few of my readers who have contacted me asking for more information about freelance writing for magazines, which I don’t feel I am qualified (yet!;-) to help with.  However, the course I am going to mention could be the answer you are searching for.

The course is called Write For Magazines E-course, and it is put together by the Renegade Writer, Linda Formichelli.  (If you haven’t read her book yet, get it.  It is a must-read for anyone just starting out.  You can get it on Amazon for peanuts – click here to get a copy.)

It is an 8 week course, which during that time will teach you how to research and choose a topic that will sell, come up with an angle that is interesting to the magazines, find experts to interview, how to interview them, go through the entire process of coming up with an outstanding query letter, learning little “tricks” of where to send them and then actually sending them out.

I opted for the premium course which gave me email access to Linda throughout the course.  She checks her emails on Tuesdays and Thursdays, answering any questions or concerns you might have.  I am very glad I went with the premium course, because sometimes it is just nice to have someone to bounce ideas off and get honest feedback – that you know is going to help you.  And, it is a little confidence booster that you are doing things right when she can follow along with you and see how you are doing.

I have sent my query letters out.  I have already received my first rejection, (of many, I am sure;-) from a magazine that has already done a similar article.  But, I am much more confident in what I am doing.  I don’t have any published clips, which can be difficult when just getting started.  Many magazines want you to send in clips of previous work – but Linda’s course does help you to find ways around that.

By the end of the course, you have a well written query letter that shows you off as a complete professional – and when you hit the send button to send that letter out, it is such a great feeling.

I know if I had just kept trying to do it on my own, I would still be trying to figure out exactly how to do everything right.  She motivates you to just do it – getting out there and learning.  I likely never would have had the courage to send out my first query letter.  Maybe I would have, but it wouldn’t have been near as professional sounding as the one she helped me put together.

This course is something I can recommend wholeheartedly and know that it is going to help anyone who is interested in freelance writing for magazines.  If you want to move beyond content writing online, or maybe you are just starting with your writing career – this course will give you an edge over the other new writers who are getting started every day.

When I first got started online, I spent months – well, to be completely honest, maybe even years – going around in circles.  I bought every new shiny object that came along promising to show me the “secrets” to making money online.

Well – that didn’t happen as these shiny products promised me!  I would so often get started on something, only to be completely distracted by an email coming in from one of the hundreds of marketing lists I was on, screaming out that I “needed to have this next best thing!”

I know now that a lot of that is my own fault.  Lacking focus and direction is a very difficult thing to deal with when working online.  Because, the truth is, you are going to be faced with many new distractions every day.  New products being launched, new software being developed – tons of things that unless you absolutely need them to continue on the course you are already on, should be completely ignored.

But, many marketers take advantage of the fact that most of us who get into Internet Marketing, or anyone really who wants to make some money online, can get distracted easily.  They know that we want to learn everything we can to give ourselves an advantage.  And, of course we want tools that will make our jobs easier.

However, at the end of the day – it is up to us to take responsibility.  Choose one method to learn, and take the time to learn it well.  Don’t go off all over the place – and once you feel that you have grown very comfortable in that method, go ahead and spread your wings a bit.

But – there are also those who are making an actual living off of Fiverr – so if you have any interest in learning a simple way to make some quick cash, go ahead and get the guide.  (It is under $10 – but gives a ton of info!)

Sites like Fiverr are giving anyone the opportunity to make some money, while at the same time be growing a business.  And, I think it is a great way for moms to start making some money!

Well, I took a couple extra days longer than expected to post back.  But, I went ahead and signed up for the program I was talking about, and I have been spending alot of time going through just a small fraction of the material.  And, truth is – I got kind of focused on the material because it was…how would I describe it….kind of like that book you read that you can’t put down.  I got watching videos and reading stuff, and wanted to keep going.  I am nowhere near getting through everything, but I wanted to post back on what I have found so far.

OK – so I guess it is time to mention the name of the product.  It is called Bring the Fresh, and it has actually been around for almost a year now I think.  I remember when it came out and I thought – “great, another product put together by a couple of ‘guru’s’ who will charge an arm and a leg and forget about the little guy that is still struggling to see their first dollar online”.  The price is a bit higher – it is $97 for the initial membership.  It gets you access to over the shoulder videos and action steps to take in getting your sites ranked and bringing traffic to your websites.  (Which of course, is the absolutely most important part of online marketing.  You can have all the best offers, and fancy bells and whistles on your site – but if you don’t have traffic, what is the point?)

But, I went ahead and purchased the Full Disclosure membership.  It is going to cost me $67 a month for the next 6 months – and then I will have complete access for life.  I thought about waiting and going through all of the basic material first, but I decided to challenge myself.  I need to make the $67 to pay for the monthly membership strictly from what I learn in the Bring the Fresh training – so I need to make that before the next monthly payment goes out.  I thought that by challenging myself, I would put more out there.

So far – here is what I have found:

When I originally went to the salespage – Bring the Fresh – there wasn’t really anything that jumped out at me in particular.  All the salespage is really, is a great big testimonial from Travis Sago (the Bum Marketer).  I wasn’t completely “in love” with the salesletter, and the truth is, if I came across it on my own, I likely wouldn’t have felt justified to shell out $97.   (Just my opinion – I am sure they have tested and it must be converting…)

But, I had heard alot of talk and murmerings on Internet Marketing forums, and review sites.  I heard some marketers who I follow and have alot of respect for giving it pretty good reviews.  So, since I had already pretty much decided I was going to give it a try, the salesletter wasn’t a big deal to me.

What DID clinch the deal for me, was when I used the contact form to ask a few questions about Bring the Fresh.  I sent it in, and I even mentioned that even though I was sure I wasn’t going to actually be speaking to Mike or Kelly (the “guru’s” behind the program), I was hoping that whoever I did talk to would be able to give me some answers.

I was pretty surprised when I heard back from Mike himself.  I have contacted quite a few “guru’s” in my time, and I don’t remember ever hearing from anyone other than their support team!  And while I am sure that alot of what he wrote back to me was prewritten, (understandable when they likely get asked the exact same questions hundreds of times) there were specific answers in there that at least let me know he had read my email and was responding to me.  So – that was a big plus in their favor!

Anyway – I went ahead and bought my membership at the end of last week.  There is a lot of stuff in there, let me tell ya!  But, if you don’t like watching videos, let me warn you.  There are ALOT of videos.

These videos take you over the shoulder watching these guys as they work – which is remarkable.  Truth is, I am not a big fan of videos.  I find that there is a lot of extra stuff that takes time up – where if I was reading, it would take me less time.  But, I see the reason for needing videos when I start watching them.

They seriously take your hand and guide you through EVERYTHING!  I was fast forwarding through a lot of the stuff in the beginning when they were setting up WordPress and forwarding domains etc. because I already know how to do that.  But, for beginners, I thought that was a very nice touch.  So many times you get a product and it tells you to do these things, but don’t show you.

As for Mike and Kelly – if you haven’t heard who they are, let me give you some background.  Kelly Felix is the guy responsible for the “Rich Jerk”.  If you have been involved in internet marketing for awhile – even if you haven’t – you will likely have heard about him.  He has made millions of dollars on the internet, and I have to say watching him in the videos is a bit of an eye-opener.  You would expect him to be this larger than life, complete “know it all”, but that isn’t what he comes across as at all.  In fact, as I was watching his first few videos, I was kind of surprised to see him making little “mistakes” and pretty much working exactly how I work myself.

And Mike Long is responsible for some pretty well known launches in IM, and was apparently involved in some big money making projects.  He definitely knows his stuff too, and together they bring a lot of knowledge to the table.

The thing is, alot of the stuff they are teaching isn’t ground breaking or brand new – and I already knew alot of the SEO stuff.  But, it is their method and ideas that give you those little “aha!” moments.

There is an active forum where both Mike and Kelly are involved – and there are a lot of others who are willing to give a hand.

So – I guess so far, I am impressed, however I am still not 100% sure that everything is worth the full price.  (It is definitely worth the $97 – just going to hold out on my opinion of the 6 month membership payments….)  I will keep working at it, and let you know.

If you would like to sign up, and go through some of the learning material as I do, go to Bring the Fresh and get started.  If you want to learn SEO and how to simplify things – then it is a very good choice.  I don’t know if you need the Full Disclosure yet – unless you are sure.  Try the basic membership first, and if you think you want to learn more at that point, upgrade your membership then.  (When you originally pay, they give you the option to upgrade – and you might feel like that is your last chance to do so.  It isn’t – you can upgrade at any time even after you have gone through all the Basic material).

Stay tuned!  I am working on a couple of sites following their methods and will report back as soon as I see some results (or lack of….).  I feel a bit more confident now in what I am doing affiliate marketing wise thanks to the videos, so hopefully I will be able to start putting everything together.

OK – for those of you who read my blog regularly, you likely notice from time to time lately that the look changes.  Yes – it is supposed to be doing that, because I am somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to some things, so I have been trying new themes out to see how they look and feel.  So – don’t be alarmed if you come here one day and everything looks different than it did the last time!  I think I have settled on one design that I like, but feel free to leave a comment or let me know if you see one you really like, or even one that you really hate!

I am about to start reviewing a product that I am going to pick up today.  It is a higher priced product ($97), so I wanted to start going through it myself to let my readers see some honest feedback about how it works.  I have bought so many different products over the years, and some have taught me a little, some have taught me absolutely nothing but how to throw my money out the window.

New Case Study – Marketing Online

So I thought I would like to try doing something I haven’t done on this blog before.  I am going to get a product that I have heard very high reviews about, and I am going to start from scratch using the methods in it.  I will be completely honest in what I say about it – in fact, I have already spoken to the creator and told him I am going to be doing a review about it on my blog.
I am impressed so far – because I received a personal reply from him answering some questions I had about the product before I order.  Not many “guru’s” will do that – I have been around long enough (over 5 years) to know that for a fact.

I am not going to tell you what the product is yet.  I am going to pick it up later today and start going through some of the material.  I will post tomorrow with some of my thoughts.

This is something that will be of interest to anyone who wants to learn more about how to make money using the internet.  It is for those interested in affiliate marketing, blogging, SEO – really anything that has to do with marketing online.

Freelance Writing for Magazines Course

I have been taking a course for the past few weeks with a freelance writer who has been published in many magazines, and who is well known in the freelance writing world.  I am going to do a review of that course as well for those who are interested.

One of the things that I know many of us have to deal with every day when working from home is managing our time to be able to actually get work done.  While everyone around us believes it is a piece of cake working at home – and most likely the majority of people who know us think that we have it so easy we should be able to accomplish a hundred things in a single day.

Truth is, that is not very often the case.  For me anyway, I know that one of my biggest challenges is managing my time and trying to organize what needs to be done.

It is so easy to get sidetracked, or to have one of those days that feels like there is just nothing you are motivated to do.  When you are out at a JOB, you have set schedules and deadlines – and sometimes having a space dedicated just to work makes it easier to stay focused on the task at hand.

Most of us don’t have that when we are working at home.  Sometimes there are kids who need our attention, other tasks like laundry that we might be trying to do – even phone calls and visitors who don’t understand that we are actually working.  And, working on the internet itself is a distraction.  How many times do you check your emails, or log on to Facebook?  All of these take time away from working.

And that is where we go wrong when trying to work at home and be productive.  When we let our focus be distracted all over the place, it is almost impossible to stay organized.  Then, once we start feeling unorganized and out of control, we start procrastinating and letting ourselves get even more distracted.

Here are some tips to help get more done when you are trying to work at home:

1. Set up an area that is specifically for work. Even if you don’t have a home office or a room that you can use, try designating an area that everyone knows is where you are working.  Don’t use that space for anything but working.  It is best if you can find somewhere without a lot of distractions, such as a TV, and if it is somewhere that you can be comfortable while you work.

2.  Schedule housecleaning and other household tasks. Stick to a schedule, and don’t let dishes or dirty laundry distract you any of the other times.  Once you know your schedule, you will know that it is going to be done and you can schedule your work times around it.  Don’t let dust or dirty floors distract you – if you have a set time that you do those tasks, worry about them then.

3.  Set specific work times, and post them on your door. Let friends and family know that you are not available during those times for visiting or talking on the phone, except for emergencies.  When you lose your focus, it can be hard to get back on track working, so it is always good to just keep focusing on the task at hand in the first place.

4.  Set rules and find a helper for your kids at least once a week. If you have kids that are still at home, working around them can be almost impossible.  But, teaching them some simple rules about when you are working can give you some time to get some tasks finished.  Most kids will be happy to play on their own for awhile, even if they are close to mom.  Find activities that will occupy your kids, and let them learn to keep themselves busy for some of the time.  Also, try finding someone who can care for your kids one or two times a week – even for just a few hours.  You will be amazed how much you can get accomplished on those days!

5.  Learn to say “No!” This can be one of the biggest challenges we face.  People call and ask if we could look after their kids.  Or, maybe we could run an errand for them that they don’t have time to do since they are at work.  When you are working at home, it can be hard for people to actually see you are “working”.  And, sometimes we feel guilty if we say no because, after all, we ARE at home.  Don’t let those thoughts take over!  Remember – you are working just as hard as those who are out at work in their JOB.

One of the most effective tools I have found in the time I have been working at home is a piece of software that allows me to set up timers for tasks that I have to do throughout the day.  I even schedule in taking clothes out of the wash and putting them in the dryer between writing articles – whatever I need to do that day.  At the end of the allotted time for each task, a timer rings letting you know what to move onto next.

It is amazing how motivating this can be.  To have everything mapped out, and knowing that you are on a timer can really help to keep you moving.  There is no running off in different directions getting sidetracked, and everything is set up at the beginning of the day.

The software is a version I got from my Earn1KADay membership, and it sold by the owner, Dennis Becker.  While the version I have is geared towards marketing activities, I can add my own tasks and modify it however I want.  And, it has made a tremendous impact on what I get done in a day.  (Although I have to admit, the first few days every time the ringer would go off to let me know time was up, I nearly jumped right out of my chair!)

Working at home can be a struggle, but once you get set schedules and start organizing important tasks that you need to finish – whether it is writing a blog post, finishing an article, setting up a website – you will find that you are getting a whole lot more accomplished than you were managing before.  And, once you find yourself being more organized, you won’t get so discouraged feeling like you are spinning your wheels and going nowhere.

I  have had many of you contact me with questions about getting started with freelance writing.  While I have been doing freelance writing online for quite a while now, I have never had anything actually published in a “print” magazine.

Not that it isn’t something I wanted to do – in fact, it is the opposite.  I am probably much like the rest of you, in that I have dreamed of being a writer my whole life.  It wasn’t something I ever actually came out and said though – because it just didn’t seem like something I would ever really be able to do.

However, the experience I have gained over these past few years online has given me a bit more confidence in what I can do, and has shown me the endless possibilities out there for people like me.

So – even if you have never had anything published, or whether you think you ever could – don’t discount writing online to build up some confidence.  Learn some writing skills and how to research.  Depending on what you want to do with your writing – whether it is just something you want to do to earn a few extra dollars each month or something you want to take as far as you can – don’t be afraid that you can’t do it.

Getting started online is a lot simpler, in most cases.  But, you still do need to be able to write fairly well.  And, the pay is not anywhere near as good as it is to have your writing in print, but many women earn a very good living doing it.  (One of the companies I am working for right now has been wonderful – there is a lot of work, and the assigments are not that difficult.  To sign up, go to Blueglass Writer Application.)

For myself, while I enjoy writing online, I do feel that I want to try going farther with it.  I want to be able to write about what I am interested in, and see it published in a magazine.  That would be such a wonderful feeling for me!

So, I enrolled myself in a course through the Renegade Writer – called Writing for Magazines.  Linda Formichelli is the instructor, and she has been a magazine freelancer for a few years now, and has been very successful.

I am only in the second week, but I feel my confidence growing knowing that I have someone who has “been there, done that” guiding me through those first query letters to editors.  I went for the premium version of the course, which I am glad I did, because I can email her questions and she has been wonderful at answering them.

If anyone else is interested in learning about freelance writing for magazines, I would suggest you read her book, “The Renegade Writer: A Totally Unconventional Guide to Freelance Writing Success” and watch for her next course to start.  Definitely worth the money – and the book is one of those “must reads”.

I’ll keep you all posted about my progress, and hopefully when I get a query accepted by a magazine!

Well, another couple of months have passed, and again I have neglected my posting.  I do apologize – the past few weeks have been a whirlwind and unfortunately my online work had to take a bit of a backseat.  I ended up moving in June, which happened in a record amount of time from us finding a house we liked, to putting ours on the market and selling it – then  of course moving with 2 kids and all their belongings!

And, July was spent with my family camping as I normally do.  August was spent on doing a ton of catch up on writing work and other things around my house.  So – that brings me to now….

I have really been immersing myself into my writing work, because at the end of the day, that is what I truly enjoy doing.  And, it is the one stable income that I know I can always count on each month.

I ended up getting hired with Demand Studios, and after a bit of a learning curve, I think I am getting the hang of how things work there.  I am still with a couple other content sites, as well as doing some work for private clients – so I am finding myself pretty busy.

Since Freelance writing seemed to be one of the topics that many of you were interested in learning about when I sent the email out asking for your opinions, I have put together a freelance writing guide that lists some of the sites online that you can use to make money.  There is a bit of info about each site, and details about the pay scale etc.

These are all sites that people are already making money with, but you will need to do your research into the ones you feel would be the best fit for you.
